Peddling indoors for fitness

Friday, April 30th, 2010

It’s amazing what quality time on a stationary bike can do for a recovering sprained ankle.  Pure healing.  Awwww.  No business networking today, but all this new exercising and nutrition awareness is making me feel more alert, powerful, and positive.  With a strange recession, all the positive energy could not hurt any business person.  Gotta figure out a creative way how to network while working out.  That’s a fun challenge.  As soon as I figure out some new ideas,  I will let everyone know.  Yes, there is golf, but not everyone plays.

Ironically, next week is “Bike to Work” week.  So, how I am suppose to do that since I work out of the house???  Okay, I will compromise, I am biking to one of my client’s place of business.  This is going hurt me physically.  Hopefully, I can go up hill.

Tomorrow.  Going to put in 10 miles for my dam to dam training.  Yes, I have not ran in 2 weeks, but I am taking it slow.  Tune in tomorrow.  :)

peg out.

4th day: Chemistry smell at gym

Thursday, April 29th, 2010
Had a great weight lifting workout today except for the woman disinfecting EVERY MACHINE: before, during, and after using it. The weight room smelled more like a chemistry room. Next time, I am bringing a surgical mask.  The more the chemical smell increased, the faster my workout was.  I know you have to lift slow to get the full effect, but it was crazy-chemical-aroma.  Anyway, my muscles are still sore from yesterday.  All the stretching is helping a little.  But man, I am sore!
As far as business, going to a business after hours tonight.  Gotta market and meet more peeps.  Will watch the eating.  More talking and less stuffing my face.
If there’s anything we should learn from this post:  be mindful of the OCD spraying of weight machines.  It’s really distracting.  Thank Goodness my next strength workout will be outside.  Thanks Joe Decker for that one.

2nd cardio day

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Wow, that was tough.  Who knew a stationary bike would make a person sweat?  Did Joe’s workout and was…tough. It was interval, interval and  I survived it.  The ankle is feeling so much better.  I would have tried running with the group today, but had my alarm go off at 5:45 am rather than 4:45 am.  They run from 5:30 am to 6:30 am.  So, I enjoyed my sleep. This Saturday is my first official attempt to run again.  Still, in the back of my mind, I am training for Dam to Dam.

Nutrition was okay.  So, I had a bible study at a coffee shop.  Not a lot to choose from nutritionally, but it was good.  I ordered a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy.  Although, the cookies, rice krispie bars, and chocolate looked oh so tempting.  I held on and was strong and forgetful about it.  I too survived that with some hot tea.  Yum.

There’s my challenge.  Food is at every meeting I know.  The coffee shop is one of my former clients.  Can’t disappoint if I don’t order the food.  So, ordering the one with the least amount of damage sounds good to me.  Thank goodness my latte, mocha, mocha praise is done.  Over.

Surviving day 2

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Did the weight training portion of Joe Decker’s book The World’s Fittest You. Performed all exercises on weight machines.  You know, using a cell phone with a lot of options helped.  I have radio stations on my phone.  Can you believe it?   Well, the workout went well.  Eating is going well.  Facing an issue already.  Do I go to the networking luncheon to eat?  I want leads, but don’t need the additional 1000 + calories that go with networking.  That part is both great and sucks.  I love eating, I love networking.  I get more benefits networking rather than stuffing excessive calories down.

Meanwhile, my miracle Chiropractor buddy, Dr. Stickel, gave me an adjustment and worked on my ankle.  I sprained that on April 17th.  With the wonders of Chiropractic, I am getting HEALED.  I am doing dam-to-dam (a half marathon) on June 5th.  Just wanna finish.

Well, back to work.  I am working on redesigning a new website for one of my clients.  So, more quality time sitting on my butt.

Hello “Business” World

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Could not resist using the “Hello World” thing.  Hey, I am Peg starting this blog.  Now, I am a very, very small business owner and web diva.  Since 2004, I have ran a business and been on my own.  Here’s the thing, I can appreciate all that goes on with running a business.  What’s the most challenging is…wait for it…the networking. Okay, that’s the easy part.  I can talk to anyone.  Here’s what they do not teach or train you to do either in school or on-the-job training:  handling your health.  I am not a fitness person.  I am not a nutrition guru. What I am is an American Worker that loves business, loves people and loves…food.

Currently, I am getting over a sprained ankle.  You see, I am part of a running group.  Everyone runs at their own speed. My running speed?  12:13 min per mile.  Not bad, but I have seen Segways in Washington D.C. go faster than I run.  I run for the pure enjoyment of it.

Here’s my challenge:  loose 50lbs, run a marathon, and teach others how to handle doing business around F-O-O-D.

So, in 2007, while looking for a wonderful PHP book (I am in web design/development) I got distracted and found this book:  The World’s Fittest You by Joe Decker.  Now, it looked easy, but I was not ready.  Mr Decker’s story is amazing and sounds like a VH-1 “Behind the Music” thing but not in the music industry.   Joe went from Fat Guy to High school Football player to Party Guy to extreme fit guy.  Then he went to win the World’s Fittest Man’s title.  Okay, all I want to do is get into shape, this guy puts that goal into shame.  In a good way though.   I emailed Joe and he’s on board with this adventure.  Also on board are business people I know, my running group, friends, family, and my bible study group (ok, reaching for higher power to help me out. Wouldn’t hurt though.)

Fast forward today.  I am finally ready.  My miracle chiropractor guy helped my ankle heal so much faster 2 days after I sprained it.  That’s a different post.

So, I am off.  Here I go.
